The Citadel Writing and Learning Center

Mission:

• Focus: Freshmen and select upper-class athletes.
• Provide access to Subject-Area Tutorials and other tutorials during evening for athletes who cannot attend during the day due to scheduling conflicts.
• Conduct Learning Strategies workshops as well as focus students on academic strengths and weaknesses.
• Create an optimal learning environment for all participants.

Helpful Information about Fall 2008:

• Sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 2000 hours to 2130 hours in Grimsley Hall Auditorium.
• Participants are predominantly Freshmen football students, but other sports are welcome to participate with the support of their coaches.
• Sessions are monitored by Writing Center staff.
• Attendance is mandatory and required by the coaching staff. Weekly attendance records are reported to the coaches.
• Participants must sign in and out. The attendance record serves as an official document.
• Program runs simultaneously with the Content Tutorials program, and participants are encouraged to take advantage of these resources.
• Computer space is limited, and Grimsley Hall Auditorium does not hae wireless capabilities. Thus, participants are encouraged to plan their computer work for another time.
• Participants are placed on orders to attend this required academic formation, which allows them to miss 750 All-Ins. However, participants are encouraged to post a copy of their orders on their door for the guard's convenience. • Participants must bring enough materials to stay busy for the entire 1.5 hours. They will not be permitted to return to their room to retrieve materials. Plan ahead.
• If you are a member of a study group that meets on Tuesday or Thursday evenings during study hall, you are encouraged to invite your group to meet in Grimsley Hall, where you will be assigned to a private room. This will allow the participant to sign in for study hall.
• Please be sure to bring your planner to each session.
